The Affair.

Inspiration is a bad companion but a brilliant lover. She’ll show up for no rhyme or reason. Often times late at night while you’re laying wide-eyed in bed with your thoughts circling like a grand carousel. She’ll knock on your front door, careful not to chip her pretty black fingernails. You’ll open it to find her angel face waiting with a bottle of cheap red wine and something lovely to smoke. Until twilight you and her will dance and if you’re in sync you’ll create something that might not change the world… but perhaps a few people in it. Come morning, she’ll be gone. Only to return again on another restless night to wrestle you naked whilst the two of you build an empire. Inspiration for the creative is a bad companion but a brilliant lover. You should love her. You should fuck her. You should miss her when she’s gone. But you shouldn’t rely on her nor build a career around her. Not if you’re wanting to make a living in this game. For the creative, inspiration is a bad companion but a truly brilliant lover and it’s imperative you don’t confuse the two.

Knock. Knock.

P.S. One day these one minute writings will be a big book called “One Minute, Please.” Can I let you know when that day comes? You can say yes, here.
