A generation taught to fill in bubbles.
The traditional school system not only failed my generation, it fucked us to pieces. It made us exceptional at doing what we are told and not asking questions.
Growing up, the kids who were put on a pedestal were those good at memorizing poorly written textbooks and filling in the “right” bubbles on a scantron sheet.
I have been out of school for three years now and not once have I had to fill in a fucking bubble. I’ve had to use intuition to sell to big brands. I’ve had to use emotional intelligence to calm down angry clients. I’ve had to use the written word to spread creative ideas. I’ve had to figure out what the fuck to do during tax season.
But, not once have I had to fill in a fucking bubble.
Sooner or later, all of us must realize the traditional school system (which is still very much in play) is fucked. It was created during the industrial revolution to turn humans into machines, to make them extraordinarily good at showing up on time to the factory, not asking questions at the factory and doing what they were told at the factory.
It was created to make us obedient. And so today, here is the problem all of us are facing. The “jobs” we were promised aren’t there. So, instead we’re forced get creative and innovative and entrepreneurial by creating our own sources of income and it’s hard as hell because we weren’t taught to be creative or innovative or entrepreneurial. We were taught to fill in fucking bubbles.

P.S. One day these one minute writings will be a big book called “One Minute, Please.” Can I let you know when that day comes? You can say yes, here.
