Fucking sprint.

Life is about rhythm and it’s about momentum. It’s not unlike writing in this way. Good writers craft their prose with rhythm and they use that rhythm to build momentum. Right now, you’re reading this and we’re dancing. Side to side. Just you and me. Feeling one another out with each passing sway. That’s rhythm.

But, eventually something changes. I start to add some punch. Some oomph. Some vinegar. Some chutzpah. I grab you by the neck and drag you across the fucking page to keep up with me. To keep pace. That’s momentum. You’re more focused now. You’re more alert. We’re no longer dancing. We’re fighting.

In writing, rhythm makes the reader comfortable. Momentum moves them into action. If rhythm is Beauty. Momentum is The Beast.

Life isn’t unlike writing in this way. It must be equal parts rhythm and momentum. Equal parts Beauty and The Beast. You need rhythm to feel comfortable. But, to take action you need momentum. You need to grab yourself by the neck, step out the door and fucking sprint. You need to sprint. This is me telling you, you need to sprint. Like, now.

P.S. One day these one minute writings will be a big book called “One Minute, Please.” Can I let you know when that day comes? You can say yes, here.
